BEAT THE HEAT WITH FABULOUS SUMMER SALES AND FUN!  

If your idea of fun is great sales, fabulous food, music and vintage cars, Kent is the place to be the first weekend of August.  Rain or shine!    

Sponsored by the Kent Chamber of Commerce, the Kent Green Shopping Center, Cozzy’s Pizzeria and Fat City Screen Printing, the Kent Sidewalk Festival takes place Thursday August 1 through Sunday August 4. The Festival is free and offers super-sized retail therapy as well as entertainment for the whole family.   For an updated schedule of events, please check the downloadable schedule in the upper right side of this page.

SHOPPING:  Kent’s unique and charming shops offer not-to-be-missed sales from participating retailers including Silver & Sage Trading,  Rolling River Antiques, Main Street Antiques, Koblenz & Co. Antique & Estate Jewelry, Heron Gallery, Chestnut Woodworking, The Covered Wagon Country Store,  the Fife ‘n Drum Gift Shop, Foreign Cargo, Chic Boutique, Kent Station Pharmacy, Terston Home Accents & Apparel, House of Books, Sundog Shoe & Leather, Boomerang Consignment, and Pantages Gems & Jewelry.  Ace Hardware will hold a “Green Tent Sale” and a “bucket sale” to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. 

KENT CAR SHOW:  The 9th Annual Kent Car Show takes place on Sat. Aug. 3 from 4 to 8 PM on the Kent Green. Food cooked over the coals by Kent Lions Club.  Drawings and door prizes!  Drive in to check out the vintage cars!

FOOD:  Hungry? Check out the fabulous food offerings at our numerous eateries! The Fife ‘n Drum Restaurant will offer lunch specials and special pricing on margaritas and draft beers.  Cozzy’s Pizzeria on the Kent Green will offer coupons for free pizza slices, a free topping, a free soda with a burger purchase or free French fries with purchase of a sub sandwich.  Yum!  Stop by the Kent CT Farmers Market on Friday from 3 to 6 PM to pick up your fresh veggies, produce, honey & meat for the weekend.  The Farmers Market is located on 9 South Main St. (Route 7), just south of the traffic light and across from NAPA Auto Parts.  Davis IGA (on the Kent Green) will hold an Ice Cream Social on Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM featuring Turkey Hill Ice Cream.  We all scream for ice cream!

TAG SALE:  St. Andrew’s Church will hold its Annual Tag Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Parish Hall, rain or shine.  Early Bird Buying on Friday from 8:30 to 10:00 AM ($10 charge).  No admission fee during regular hours on Friday and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, Sunday 11:30 to 2:30.

LIVE MUSIC:  Acoustic duo “Heather & Tobias” will perform on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on the Golden Falcon Lot.  The Kent Park & Rec’s Free Concert series concludes on Thursday August 1 with “The Joint Chiefs” playing on the lawn at the Kent Town Hall from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  “Famous Before We’re Dead” will perform from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday at the Kent Town Center (27 North Main Street).  Fridays @ the Fife will have Larry Ham on piano and Woody Witt on tenor sax from 7 to 10 PM.  $5 cover charge goes to the band.

FOR THE KIDS:  Kent Volunteer Fire Dept will offer fire truck rides on Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM; pickup is at Union Savings Bank on the Kent Green.  The Kent Memorial Library’s Annual Sidewalk Chalk contest (open to all ages) will take place on Saturday at 10:30 AM.   Face painting on the Golden Falcon lot on Saturday (TBD).

BOOK SALE & CAR RAFFLE:  Make sure to stop by the Kent Memorial Library for their Annual Book Sale and to purchase raffle tickets for a 2000 Porsche Boxster Roadster.  The Chess Court will be alive with chess enthusiasts from amateur to experienced levels.  Relax and stroll through the KML Gallery to view the exhibit “Born to Be Wild” featuring work by Kent native Paul Sakren. The library also has a Summer Reading Program for Adults and their Summer Creative Journaling program continues through August.  The library is open on Sundays from noon to 4 PM through August and invites you to “Boards Games & Lemonade”:  enjoy a puzzle, board game and lemonade in an air-conditioned setting on Sunday Aug. 4 from 12 to 4 PM.

ART:  Looking for a little bit of culture?  Stop by one of our wonderful art galleries on Main Street and in the Kent Barns complex for some eye-popping artwork. The Kent Art Association’s 2nd Annual “Small Works Porch Sale” will take place on Friday and Saturday.  Original artwork and photography by Kent Art Association members, priced at $100 for less, framed & ready to hang. Be sure to check out the Joy Brown and Peter Busby sculptures while you stroll throughout town.

HEALTH:  Kent Yoga & Bodyworks will offer a big savings for NEW students at their 9:30 AM yoga class on Friday and Saturday.   Both classes for $30 or each class for $18.  Chestnut Woodworking will have selected Eco-Goods on sale. 

OTHER HAPPENINGS:  Other happenings include Henna by Elyse at Boomerang Consignment (on the Kent Green) on Saturday from 1 to 4 PM.    Henna by Niharika will be at Terston (Kent Town Center) from 2 to 5 PM on Saturday.  On the Golden Falcon Lot on Main Street:  Support Kent’s non-profit organizations by stopping by the information booths. Purchase some of the great handmade crafts by the Kent Quilters and the Sacred Heart Church Craft Group.  Learn about Kent’s history at the Kent Historical Society’s booth.   The Kent Volunteer Fire Dept will offer free popcorn and CPR training on Saturday and Sunday.  The kids of the First Congregational Church of Kent will offer freshly squeezed lemonade for sale from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday and from noon to 2 PM on Sunday on the Bain Real Estate lawn (21 North Main St.) 

Parking is available on the street and on the Kent Green property.  The Kent Welcome Center (directly behind the Kent Station Pharmacy) has public bathrooms as does the Kent Memorial Library.
