The Kent Chamber of Commerce plans an exciting 2012. The Annual Kent Sidewalk Festival moves back to the first weekend in August (Thursday Aug. 2 thru Sunday Aug. 5) and promises another exciting weekend. Sales at the town’s independent retail stores, music, and fun for children are all part of the event. The 2nd Annual Kent Charity Golf Classic will take place on June 4 at the Lake Waramaug Country Club. AND ~ DON'T FORGET: The 36th Annual Kent Pumpkin Run takes place on Sunday, October 29 and the 3rd Annual Kent Gingerbread Festival begins right after Thanksgiving. Come and be part of Kent!

- Kent Art Association’s | Spring Juried Show ~ Friday May 4 to Sunday June 3, 2012. Awards Reception will be held on Saturday, May 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with awards presented at 3:00 PM. The refreshments are being provided by the Villager Restaurant in Kent. The event is free and open to the public. It is a good time to meet and talk to some of the artists and sample food from a Kent restaurant. Regular gallery hours are Friday – Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Beginning May 24, the gallery hours will change to Thursday through Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Kent Art Association will be open Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 for regular hours. - Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts | ”Come See Us Dance” Scholarship Benefit ~ Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kent Community House, 93 North Main Street, Kent. The evening features extraordinary dance performances by Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts dancers and guest arts. The annual benefit supports partial scholarships for nearly 90% of the students attending the summer dance intensive (held at the Marvelwood School from July 8 – August 4). Guests will enjoy cocktails and fabulous hors d’oeuvres in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Families are welcome with children under 12 free being engaged in a few dance steps with the EMIA dancers and treated to special snacks. - Kent Energy & Environmental Task Force | IT MATTERS! Film & Lecture Series ~ Thursday May 17, 2012. 7:30 at the Dickinson Auditorium, Kent School. Systems Thinking and a Well Lived Life ~ If you can’t solve a problem enlarge it with Ariana Bain, MESc a specialist in industrial & urban ecology, with projects including tracking scrap dealers through India, followed coffee beans in the Nicaraguan campo, started the first university-level sustainability education program in Bangladesh, and created strategic plans for corporations in the US. - Kent Garden Club’s | Annual Garden Sale ~ Saturday May 19, 2012 from 8:30 AM to Noon. On the lawn at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1 North Main St., Kent. This popular sale features plants and all sorts of garden related items, and all proceeds from this sale go to beautify the Town of Kent.
- St. Luke’s Lodge #48 AF & AM | Saturday, May 19, 2012. Hosts a BBQ lunch to benefit the Kent Center School Scholarship Fund. The barbeque will take place at Kent Center School , located on Judd Avenue, and will run from Noon to 2:00 PM. The menu includes: Half a chicken, garden salad, homemade potato salad, baked beans and dessert. Coffee, soda or bottled water is also included. Lunches are available to eat in or take out and will be $10 for adults, $6 for children aged 6-12 years old and free for children under the age of 6. Tickets are available in advance from Scholarship Committee Members and also members of St. Luke’s Lodge OR at the door on the day of the event. Proceeds from the barbeque will benefit the Kent Center School Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships for the post-secondary education of Kent Center School graduates. - Kent Historical Society’s | Sunday Series ~ Sunday May 20, 2012. 2:00 PM at the Kent Town Hall. Rex Brasher Artwork & Stories will feature Deborah & Melode Brasher, grandnieces of the famous artist. Brasher has been called the 20th century Audubon for his realistic paintings of birds in their natural settings. From 1911-1960, Brasher made his home near Kent. He was also a founder of the Kent Art Association. The Brasher sisters will bring their memories of Uncle Rex, his life story, and some of his paintings. This is an opportunity to see and hear about the artistic genius of Rex Brasher. The program will last about an hour followed by refreshments. FREE although contributions are welcomed. - Kent Memorial Library | Annual Book Sale ~ Begins Friday May 25 and will run Friday, Saturday, Sunday plus holiday Mondays, through mid-October. Book sale hours are Fri & Sun 12:00 to 5:00 PM; Sat. & holiday Mondays 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Volunteers for the Book Sale are always needed as well as book donations. The 2nd Annual Special & First Editions Sale will be held from Friday to Monday of Memorial Day Weekend in the Reading Room of the Library (rain or shine). This sale will be greatly expanded from last year, and will feature many signed and inscribed editions including Contemporary Firsts. - KVFD Firemen’s Ball | Saturday June 9, 2012. The Kent Firemen’s Ball is a gala event looked forward to by many all year. It offers a chance to catch up with fellow residents, enjoy good food and dance the night away. Festivities will kick off at 6:00 PM with hors d’oeuvres and music at the firehouse. The traditional roast beef dinner will be served beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $35 at the door. They are available at a number of local stores and in the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall. The evening is BYOB with set ups and ice available.
