Celebrate the Holly-Days in Kent
Skip the mall and follow the search lights to Kent for a weekend of shopping, dining and champagne sipping.  The 2nd Annual Kent Holiday Champagne Stroll takes place Friday and Saturday, November 28 and 29 from 4-7 p.m.  For $10, sample over 30 champagnes at the participating businesses.  The event is underwritten by Bain Real Estate and the Kent Chamber of Commerce.
Begin under the search lights at The Swift House, 10 Maple Street (at the corner of Routes 341 and 7) to check in and purchase a champagne flute, bracelet and map. The map divides the town into four zones. Visit at least two businesses in each zone; get your map stamped and your name will be entered into the drawing for one of three great bottles of champagne: a Dom Perignon 2004 valued at over $200, a Tattinger Brut Française and a Roederer “Estate” vintage.  You may register in advance on line at www.kentstroll.com.  Strollers must be over 21 with ID, please.   Come early to shop and check in any time after 2 PM.  As one of last year’s visitors from Sharon said, "What's not to like?  Beautiful town, beautiful shops, sipping champagne all the way!”
As you stroll by the light of hundreds of luminaries, enjoy the music of the “Salisbury Band Christmas Brass & Hot Chocolate Society” each evening next to the Library.   Participating merchants will have special promotions and events including discounts on selected merchandise and drawings for gifts and meals.
The French may have invented and perfected “true” champagne from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France and made using a specific method, but other countries have created their own versions of this wonderful bubbly.  Businesses will have some of these such as Prosecco from Italy, Cava from Spain and sparkling wines from the United States.  There will also be non-alcoholic sparkling beverages and finger foods to nibble.
Kent Kitchen Works will host 15 minute champagne seminars each evening at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM where participants will be able to taste additional champagnes and learn details about them. For more information about these contact Kent Wine & Spirit at 860-927-3033.   As Anne McAndrew of Backcountry Outfitters said, “The Stroll is the perfect opportunity to taste many sparkling wines and decide which one compliments your holiday fare. Bring your notepad."
Once you have strolled and shopped and tasted, head to one of Kent’s fine restaurants for dinner where you will find unique menu items to compliment the weekend as well as more champagne.  As Sex in the City author and local resident Candace Bushnell wrote, "Champagne – it’s just beer for girls”, although men will enjoy this, too.
